Big news to the entire candle industry! Yankee candles was sold this week for about $1.4 billion. What does this mean to the average candle buyer? That’s hard to say. We could see an increase in price per candle, or we could see a decrease in quality. There might also be no real change. At this point, we don’t know. Will be quite interesting to watch though to find out what happens!

October 21st is the “Sweetest Day”. Because of this, we are featuring the scent “Best Friends”. This is a wonderful and very strong scent which we feel goes perfectly with the day.
Best Friends is a blend of boysenberries, elderberries, strawberries, guava and pomegranate with a down of soft vanilla.

If you’ve seen our scent “Coca Cola”, I’m sure you’ve asked yourself “Does that REALLY smell like Coke??”. Well let me put that question to rest - yes, it really does smell like Coke. The general reaction at craft shows when they smell the coca-cola scent is “WOW!”. Many can’t get over how much it really DOES smell like it says.
The other question that’s been asked on this particular scent, is “does it make you want to drink it?” That I can’t really answer. It doesn’t make ME want to drink it, but I think it could have a different effect on others.
Finally the other question that may be on your mind…..how does it smell burning? Answer - absolutely wonderful. This is one of my favorite “any time” scents that I throw in the melt warmer often. It’s got a nice “clean” scent to it, believe it or not.
There you have it - the mysteries behind the ever so unique scent “Coca Cola” answered.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of years. I love getting the kids dressed up, decorating, and doing crafts.
There are two main scents at Prairie Soy Candles which fit perfect with this time of year. Those two are Candy Corn and Pumpkin Pie Spice. Candy corn is a very sweet scent, and one I enjoy. Pumpkin Pie Spice has the pumpkin tones with strong cinnamon and spice. One of my absolute favorites!
These scents and more available at:
Prairie Soy Candles.

On November 3rd, we’re scheduled to be at Newton DMACC for the “Girl’s Night Out” event. Although right after we reserved our space, it was announced my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary would be on the same day and at the same time. There was no way to attend both the show and the party, so we were ready to cancel. After all, a 60th anniversary is pretty important.
Just as we were about to cancel, we came up with the idea to ask a friend to sit at the table for us. We’ll set up before, and come back to tear down. No problem! She agreed, and I can’t tell you how good it feels to have a friend as great as her. There’s noone in the world I would trust more to run our business when we can’t, and she definately knows the products. Just in case though, I’ve given her a list of some common questions. I have complete faith in her, and know she’ll do just fine.
So if you are in central Iowa and plan to be at this show in November, make sure you stop by and say hello to one of our dearest family friends. Also do be sure to go easy on her, this will be her first time at a craft show.

This weekend we’ll be attending the Advertureland craft show in Altoona, Iowa. We’ve been at this show before, tucked away in the hallway last spring. Even though this craft show has been going for years and we attended last spring, this will be our first October show at this particular place. We are really hoping for a great turn out and strong sales!
We know from experience there are several other candle makers attending this show. What makes us different? We don’t use dyes. Many of our customers have told us they think it’s wonderful we don’t use dyes in our candles, and have made several purchases. On the other hand though, there have been other customers who question it. We realise there is a market for both colored candles and candles without dyes, which is why seeing ‘competition’ doesn’t bother us in the least.
If you are in central Iowa and love craft shows, you are more than likely to see us within the next few weeks. This weekend is Adventureland, next week is Mingo. November we are completely booked every weekend. In November, we’ll start with “Girl’s Night Out” at DMACC in Newton. Next will be Pella High School in Pella, followed by Four Mile Elementary (my old elementary school, just outside of Pleasanthill). Finally we’ll end our shows in November on Thanksgiving weekend at Adventureland again.
Planning to be at one of these shows and want something specific? Let us know and we’ll be sure to have it on hand. You can pick it up at the show! See all our candles at:

Did you know that October is considered Apple Month? I can definitely see why - we’ve got more apples than we can handle, and I’m sure everyone else does as well. This is the month where most of the apples are being picked and used in pies, cakes, jelly, and other recipes.
If you are like me and had your fill of cooking with apples, we’ve got some special featured scents for the month of October.
Hot Baked Apple Pie
The warm aroma of an apple pie baking in the oven. Give me the scent over actually having to make the pie any day!
Apples and Oak
Not a bakery scent, but rather a ‘woodsy’ type scent. The oak comes through on this scent, and has become one of our more popular scents for fall.
You can get a sample of either of these scents with your order. Details on our “Scent of the Month” can be found here:
