We’ve been a bit sneaky.

Last week the large 16oz “fish bowls” decorated candles were added to the site, and we didn’t announce it. Not on the blog and not in the newsletter. Oops!

What makes these decorated candles unique is they are decorated by scent. The candle pictured is in Caribbean Morning scent. You’ll see it’s decorated with “tropical” butterflies in an orange theme.

A few months back, my grandparents had their 60th wedding anniversary. As a gift, we donated several of these jars to be placed on the tables. All were in floral scents to hopefully please the masses. Each decorated with floral designs and pastel colors. They looked absolutely beautiful!

So anyway, the 16oz “Fish Bowl” jars are now available. The 8oz faceted jars were also released today. These are also decorated candles based on scent choice. Very fun gifts!

Valentine’s day is just around the corner! Since all candles are handmade when ordered and estimated shipping time is up to two weeks, we decided to post our gift ideas a little early to give you enough time to shop.

A very fun and unique scent! If you are looking for a scent that’s very sweet, this one is a great choice. Pink Sugar will be replacing cotton candy on our scent list, because we think you’ll like this one better.

Honey
To Be Released February 7th
Love the scent of golden honey? This scent is very true to it’s name. A great give for your “honey” on Valentine’s day!

Never heard of the scent “Nag Champa”? We hadn’t either until we started seeing how popular it was getting. A little research told us this scent was a blend of patchouli, sandalwood, and dragon’s blood. Imagine the smell of fresh incense without all the smoke!

On December 27th, 2006, this scent was added to our regular line of scents. We thought this was a perfect scent to add just before the new year. It’s also perfect for those who have been asking for something similar to patchouli or sandalwood (and there have been quite a few requests!).

Nag Champa candles can be purchased in any size or type at our online store.

Still have a few people to shop for? We’ve made a list of all the candles we have in stock. Same quality, except they are already made up and ready to ship!

Order any of these candles by December 15th, and we’ll get it to you before Christmas. This list includes our Christmas scents, but also other scents we’ve kept in stock for craft shows.

You may have all week to shop, but remember there are only one or two of each on this list in stock - grab your gifts before someone else does!

On Monday, December 11th, we’ll be busy getting “The List” up and ready for everyone to make last minute purchases from. While it’s too late to make regular orders in time for Christmas (we just do NOT trust the post office this time of year, and want to make sure all orders get finished in time), this list will be made up of all candles we still have in stock.

Why don’t we post it right now? Well, that’s because we have on last craft show in Baxter, Iowa tomorrow evening. Whatever is left from this show will be what’s on the “available for immediate delivery” list.

Once the list is up, you’ll have from December 11th until the 15th to order. All items will be immediately shipped out, and you’ll receive them just in time for Christmas.

We’ve added a few new melt warmers, and will even throw in a few melts with purchase. Please note, free melts are from what we already have in stock. Additional packages of melts can not be guaranteed delivery by Christmas.

If you are in central Iowa, be sure to stop by the Baxter craft show on Saturday, December 9th, from 5pm - 8pm. We’ll be there with the last of our Christmas scents!

The last day to order in time for Christmas from Prairie Soy Candles is December 4th. It may seem a little early to some, but we just want to make sure all items arrive before Christmas. There’s nothing worse than not getting a gift in time, so we wanted to avoid that.

Some unique items on Etsy and votives on the discounted shelf we can guarantee after the 4th, simply because they are already made items. Everything else is handpoured and takes several days to make and ship.

If you haven’t done your candle shopping yet, now is the time to do it!

This weekend we’ll be attending the Advertureland craft show in Altoona, Iowa. We’ve been at this show before, tucked away in the hallway last spring. Even though this craft show has been going for years and we attended last spring, this will be our first October show at this particular place. We are really hoping for a great turn out and strong sales!

We know from experience there are several other candle makers attending this show. What makes us different? We don’t use dyes. Many of our customers have told us they think it’s wonderful we don’t use dyes in our candles, and have made several purchases. On the other hand though, there have been other customers who question it. We realise there is a market for both colored candles and candles without dyes, which is why seeing ‘competition’ doesn’t bother us in the least.

If you are in central Iowa and love craft shows, you are more than likely to see us within the next few weeks. This weekend is Adventureland, next week is Mingo. November we are completely booked every weekend. In November, we’ll start with “Girl’s Night Out” at DMACC in Newton. Next will be Pella High School in Pella, followed by Four Mile Elementary (my old elementary school, just outside of Pleasanthill). Finally we’ll end our shows in November on Thanksgiving weekend at Adventureland again.

All of our melts and full size candles are made with 100% soy wax, small amount of beeswax, and fragrance oils.

These melts (often called “tarts”) are larger than your normal melt - each weigh over 1 ounce instead of 1/2 an ounce like many others. All are made without dyes, so colors will not stain or clash with your melt burner. Some melts may have a yellow tint to them, but that is just the fragrance oil.
