Prairie Soy Candles Discount Shelf

Prairie Days is this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to it. Not only do we have a craft table, but the kids always enjoy the activities which go on all weekend. Last year we took turns sitting at the table, while the other takes the kids around to the rides and games.

I’ve also got someone of a tradition when it comes to events like this. I MUST have a corn dog, no matter what. I don’t know why, but it’s a must. Use to be the only place you could get a corn dog was at the state fair or at big events. Now they sell them in the store, but it’s just not the same. I’ve got to have my corn dog served fresh and made right in front of me.

Enough about foods though. The partner (my mother) is busy pouring candles and getting ready for Friday and Saturday. She’s made sure to have our most popular scents on hand. This includes French Vanilla Coffee, Country Home, Vanilla, Cinnamon Sticks, Best Friends, Hummingbird, and several others. Most of the time we just never know what’s going to sell, and it’s often a surprise. Even still, some scents still sell better than others.

If you are in the central Iowa area, come on down to Prairie City and see us! We’ll be right on the square with the other crafters, and free smells are always available.

When we visit craft shows, one of our main questions we ask any interested shopper is what type of candle scent they like. About 80% say “Vanilla Candles”. We nod and almost expect it now, then point them to our vanilla scented candles like Vanilla Silk, Snickerdoodle, Carrot Cake, and a few others.

Since the majority of the public is completely in love with vanilla scented candles, we decided to do something a little crazy. We created a website with nothing but candles featuring the vanilla scents we carry!

The name of the site is Vanilla-Candles.net. Think of it as a “mini-site” for those of you that just flat out aren’t interested in anything but vanilla. You can still find the full line of scents we offer at Prairie Soy Candles, but this new site is specifically for those that don’t want to sift through all the other scents and products.

This project has been a long time coming. Depending on the popularity, we may just add a few other “mini-sites” focused on other main types of scents (like bakery, florals, fruits, etc). We’ll see!

Often times at craft shows, someone will casually walk by and glance at our candles. While our candles look nice, they look like….well, candles without dye. It’s not until we get to chatting with them that we find out what their favorite scents are, and we are able to give them great suggestions on certain scents. Most of the time the customer walks away with a candle in hand, happy to have found a great scent.

Online it’s not so easy to have a one on one chat with someone. Scent lists on websites can seem endless, and your favorite might not always “jump out”…especially if the list is as large as our’s (currently over 40 different scents).

One of the problems with online stores is the lack of communication and personalization. Filling out a form or an email just isn’t the same. To find a scent you truely love, a personal conversation is a must! This is why Prairie Soy Candles is now offering something special and unique to candle lovers.

One of our first questions at craft shows is always “What type of scents do you like?”. Based on the answer to that question, we are able to find a scent that is to your liking. Because we know what they smell like, it’s easier for us to tell what you may like going by YOUR description. It’s also easier to find an exact scent that matches instead of you sifting through our scent list.

Also, we realize you may have that certain scent you found in a store at one point but haven’t been able to find ever since. Describing that scent in detail may help us to find a scent that is very similar to the one you loved and can’t find.

- Candle type preferences
Not sure what would fit into your decor, or what size the candle actually is? A conversation can clear up some of that confusion, and we can also point you in a direction to a candle that fits your style.

- Special Orders
There’s no way for us to be 100% accurate on your preferred scent, so in a personal chat we can put together a personalized sample pack of melts or tealights. Prices will be quoted on the spot, and we can also talk about shipping options.

We can also talk about other types of special orders, and types of candles you prefer. Based on your descriptions, we can give you better recommendations.

New to Prairie Soy Candles - Electric Melt Warmers!

I absolutely love melt warmers, since melts are so inexpensive. I’ve used mostly melts in my home for several years now. Dandelion Pear is currently in my warmer as I type. They are super easy to take care of, and also easy to use. If you’ve never even seen a melt warmer before, let me tell you how they work:

Electric warmers use a small light bulb, just like the ones you would put in a night light. I always use 40-45 watt bulbs in mine to make sure the melt actually melts and puts off the best scent.

A bowl or plate sits on the top which most of the time can be removed. All of the models currently available at Prairie Soy Candles are two pieces, so you can remove the tops for easy cleaning. The wax melt is placed inside of the bowl and is heated by the light from the bottom.

When the scent is gone, usually 2-3 days but sometimes longer depending on the scent, you just pour out the excess wax. Using soy melts makes for an extra easy clean up, and you’ll just need a paper towl to wipe out the inside of the bowl. This only takes a minute to clean.

There’s no flame, only heat, so it’s safe to use in places that may not allow candles. Melt warmers can be extremely cost effective, since melts sell for a whole lot less than regular candles. A 10 pack of wax melts at Prairie Soy Candles only costs $6.99!

After much work over the weekend, the new candle store at Prairie Soy Candles is now live! I’ve very excited about the new store, and I’m sure you will all love it as well. There’s lots of great features for customers, including:

Add items to your cart for now or for later, and they will never be deleted! Just set up a customer account for free to use this feature.

- Exact shipping and more options
Our old cart had a fixed cost and was estimated. Now you can choose not only which method but the cheapest and fastest as well! Choose from USPS or UPS - several options are available for each. There’s even an option for local orders to choose free shipping (available in Iowa only).

- Order History
After purchasing from our new online store, you can log in to your account to check your past ordering history. It will show what you ordered, when it was ordered, how much it cost, and what the order status is (Pending, Processing, Shipped, or Delivered).

- Gift Certificates via Email
Now you can purchase gift certificates and have a “gift certificate account” where money is stored. You can either use the amount for yourself at a later date, OR send specific amount to people via email. Gift certificates are only available online at this time, and can only be sent to others with an email address. See our “Gift Certificate FAQ” for details on this option.

- Coupon Check
If you’ve received a coupon code from us, you can now check the details on the code before purchasing. A handy option for those wanting to know if the code is still valid, or what it includes.
