Topic: Scent Suggestion

October is Dessert Month

Did you know October is concidered Dessert Month to some? I imagin it’s because October the days start to get cooler, and the need to have warm scents in the house become greater.

We’ve got quite a few different dessert and bakery scents, since they are my favorite. Especially in the fall when it’s starting to get cold. Here are a few of the dessert scents currently on our list:

Gingerbread
Pecan Pie
Coconut Danish
Banana Cream Pie
Carrot Cake
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Cookies & Cream
Blueberry Muffin
Hot Baked Apple Pie

All of these scents, plus many more can be found at:
Prairie Soy Candles

Halloween Scents

Halloween is one of my favorite times of years. I love getting the kids dressed up, decorating, and doing crafts.

There are two main scents at Prairie Soy Candles which fit perfect with this time of year. Those two are Candy Corn and Pumpkin Pie Spice. Candy corn is a very sweet scent, and one I enjoy. Pumpkin Pie Spice has the pumpkin tones with strong cinnamon and spice. One of my absolute favorites!

These scents and more available at:
Prairie Soy Candles.

October is Apple Month

Did you know that October is considered Apple Month? I can definitely see why - we’ve got more apples than we can handle, and I’m sure everyone else does as well. This is the month where most of the apples are being picked and used in pies, cakes, jelly, and other recipes.

If you are like me and had your fill of cooking with apples, we’ve got some special featured scents for the month of October.

Hot Baked Apple Pie
The warm aroma of an apple pie baking in the oven. Give me the scent over actually having to make the pie any day!

Apples and Oak
Not a bakery scent, but rather a ‘woodsy’ type scent. The oak comes through on this scent, and has become one of our more popular scents for fall.

You can get a sample of either of these scents with your order. Details on our “Scent of the Month” can be found here:

The Holiday Sampler Melt Pack includes the following scents:

Christmas Splendor
Christmas Cabin
Snickerdoodle Cookies

Coca-Cola

All of our melts and full size candles are made with 100% soy wax, small amount of beeswax, and fragrance oils.

These melts (often called “tarts”) are larger than your normal melt - each weigh over 1 ounce instead of 1/2 an ounce like many others. All are made without dyes, so colors will not stain or clash with your melt burner. Some melts may have a yellow tint to them, but that is just the fragrance oil.

What’s a Soy Wax Melt?

When we first started making our own candles and selling at craft shows over a year ago, there were quite a few who weren’t sure exactly what a melt was. We spent a lot of time explaining, and that was alright with us. Some knew it as “tarts”, although we can’t use that term because it’s trademarked by Yankee candle.

Now though, we do a lot less explaining. It seems more and more know what melt warmers are, and have several in their homes. Personally I love my melt warmer, and it’s so very easy to pick out “left over” melts from craft shows and other orders. Sure I still burn candles, but the majority of the time my melt warmer is on.

With the popularity of melts come sample packs of melts. While we normally sell in packages of 10, I’ve noticed many are looking for packages of lots of different scents. This month I’ve put up several sample package sales on Etsy, and just about all of them have sold. Looks like I may have to put up even more in the near future!

For those looking to try out some melts, here is what we have:

10 Pack Melts - Choice of Scent

12 Pack Bakery Melts Sample Pack

Soy Melts on EtsyThere are two main features of our melts:

No Dyes
Since we use no dyes, you aren’t going to stain a melt warmer or have the color of the melt clash with your warmer. All of them are a pure, creamy white.

Large Size
We’ve seen melts at craft shows which are half the size our melts are. If you have a large room, it takes a lot of scent to fill it up. Our melts are over an ounce, and some of the largest “regular” melts you will ever see.

We’ll be adding more sample pack features on Etsy soon, so be watching!

56 Scents

Did you know we now have 56 scents on our website? Today we added Coconut Danish, which is an absolutely wonderful scent. This is just one of our many food scents on the list.

Don’t like food scents? We also have several florals and mixed blends. Some of our more popular scents include:

- French Vanilla Coffee
If you love coffee scents, you’ll love this creamy vanilla coffee. I’m not a fan of coffee scented candles, but absolutely LOVE this one!

- Coca Cola
Yes, it really does smell like Coke! The normal reaction to those who smell this at craft shows is “Wow!”.

- Clean Crisp Air
If you like the “clean” scents, this is the perfect scent for you.

- Hummingbird
This scent makes the perfect gift, since almost everyone loves this scent. Includes top notes of tart kiwi, middle notes of lilac and tiger lily, with fresh based notes of pineapples and pears.

- Best Friends
One of my personal favorites, and one of the strongest scents out there. Blend of boysenberries, elderberries, strawberries, guava and pomegranate with a down of soft vanilla

Everyone’s scent preferences are different, so be sure to stop by our store and see our current scent list. We update our scents and products each week, so you never know what you’ll find!

Vanilla Scented Candles

When we visit craft shows, one of our main questions we ask any interested shopper is what type of candle scent they like. About 80% say “Vanilla Candles”. We nod and almost expect it now, then point them to our vanilla scented candles like Vanilla Silk, Snickerdoodle, Carrot Cake, and a few others.

Since the majority of the public is completely in love with vanilla scented candles, we decided to do something a little crazy. We created a website with nothing but candles featuring the vanilla scents we carry!

The name of the site is Vanilla-Candles.net. Think of it as a “mini-site” for those of you that just flat out aren’t interested in anything but vanilla. You can still find the full line of scents we offer at Prairie Soy Candles, but this new site is specifically for those that don’t want to sift through all the other scents and products.

This project has been a long time coming. Depending on the popularity, we may just add a few other “mini-sites” focused on other main types of scents (like bakery, florals, fruits, etc). We’ll see!

So if you like vanilla scented candles, be sure to stop by Vanilla Candles and check it out! You’ll find detailed information on each type of scent, along with features of burning these creamy soy candles. Lots of information and tips on the most popular candle scent!

Longing for the Scent of Summer?

It’s only the middle of February, and while some days have been nice enough to seem like spring, winter is far from over. Scents have the power to trigger our senses and remind us of many things - seasons included. Many scents have the power to make you feel as if it’s a certain time of year which make you feel great.

Here is a short list of several scents available at Prairie Soy Candles that may remind you of summer:

Fresh Cut Grass
Nothing reminds you of summer better than this scent!
True to form, this actually DOES smell like cut grass.

Caribbean Morning
Coconut, pineapple, and vanilla ice cream - many scents which can remind someone of summer.

More of a mid-summer scent, but definitly one that can remind someone of juicy watermelon on a hot summer day.

Strawberry Daiquiri
Strawberry scents of any kind can remind some of summer. This one smells good enough to drink!

Cotton Candy
Carnivals in the summer, what a fantastic time! This scent can bring old childhood memories and remind you of the carefree days of summer.

Can’t wait for that first dandelion to appear? This scent really does remind you of dandelions mixed with the sweet scent of pears.

Flower Scented Candles - Spring Candles

Flower Scented Candles - Spring Candles

In the late winter months, usually around January and February, all of us start longing for the winter to be over. Some of us might even suffer from the winter blues, and something as simple as a spring-scented candle can help releave the feelings of “cabin fever”.

Spring time candles could be just about anything floral, or even blends of flower like candles. Here’s a short list of some regular flowers that come in candle scents:

- Tiger Lily
- Lily of the Valley
- Honeysuckle
- Lilac
- Lavender
- Jasmine
- Gardenia
- Tulips
- Carnation
- Roses

Some floral blends include:

Floral Bouquet
To me this smells just like a floral shop! One of my absolute all time favorites that I love to burn all year round. It’s a combination of carnations, tulips, roses, and fresh greenery.

Cinderella
Romantic aroma of amber, musk, vanilla, and fresh cut violets and lily of the valley. It’s a nice blend for those that like both floral and musk.

Antique Lace
Another musk and floral scent - blend of jasmine, vanilla beans, and musk

Children’s Room
Floral with baby flower - blend of violet powder accord with light bottom notes of peony and alyssum flowers.

Clean Crisp Air
Very complex fragrance - blend of clover, ivy, baby’s breath, periwinkle, lily of the valley, and ozony fresh notes.

There are of course many other types of floral blends out there, these are just a few you can choose from. Sometimes all we need is something light and simple to brighten our day, and when that’s the case, anything like Honeysuckle or Lily of the Valley will do. ;)

The blends listed above can be found at Prairie Soy Candles.
